A poster presentation by George Zguris and Jeff Jordan
Absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery separators that use organic materials to enhance sheet properties are gaining increased market share compared to standard all-glass AGM formulations, especially in the growing SLI-VRLA battery segment. These separators, known as hybrid absorbed glass mat separators (HAGM), are more technically complicated than all-glass varieties. Battery engineers are realizing that differing separator manufacturing technologies can greatly impact the physical properties of various HAGM designs. This presentation reviews the important issues around optimizing HAGM separator media for high performance and greater manufacturability.
