              Health Care Supply Chain

The COVID-19 virus is straining the global healthcare supply chain.  Hollingsworth & Vose makes filtration material that is a critical component in Respiratory Protection Equipment, including disposable and surgical face masks, as well as Medical Respiratory Equipment (ventilators).  We take this responsibility seriously, with great concern for people worldwide who are or may be affected by COVID-19.

Recently, we have added staff and adjusted manufacturing schedules to optimize the amount of product we can produce in response to this global health crisis.  Despite these efforts, demand is surpassing supply and extending lead times.  In light of this, we are prioritizing orders from existing customers who have active manufacturing and distribution within the respiratory protection market with approved products.  This approach will optimize the speed and number of people who can be helped in this challenging situation.

The safety of our employees and the community are a priority for H&V.  We have also taken steps to comply with CDC and state guidance to slow the spread of the virus.

Thank you for your understanding.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Disposable and Surgical Face masks

What is H&V’s role in making face masks?

H&V does not make face masks. H&V produces advanced filtration materials that are a critical part of face masks.

How does H&V supply the face mask market?

H&V provides customers with industrial-sized roll goods of filtration media. The rolls are then converted to make the final face mask.

What other materials are in a face mask?

Other nonwoven materials in the face mask depend on the type and construction, and may include spunbond and carded nonwovens. In addition, materials to make ear-loops or headbands and sometimes valves are used. H&V is not a producer of any of these materials.

Availability of material

How can I get a quote and understanding of lead times?

H&V is prioritizing orders from existing customers who have active manufacturing and distribution within the respiratory protection market with approved products. This approach will optimize the speed and number of people who can be helped in this challenging situation.

We’re a group making individual face masks. Can we get just a small roll?

We are inspired by everyone around that world that is responding to this crisis, however at this critical time all our capacity must go to existing customers that have active manufacturing and distribution within the respiratory protection market with approved products.

Ratings and different respiratory protection

What ratings do H&V provide?

Producers of face masks must make sure that masks meet standards and ratings prescribed therein (for example N95). H&V recommends certain filtration media depending on the rating the customer is looking for. Under normal circumstances, we can provide filtration media that is suitable for all disposable face mask standards for example NIOSH 42CFR-84 EN149, EN143 and for surgical masks such as ASTM F2100, EN14683.

What is an N95 Respirator?

An N95 respirator is designed to achieve a very close facial fit. The respirator provides a very efficient filtration of airborne particles.

What is a surgical mask?

A surgical mask may help in blocking large-particle droplets, splashes, sprays, or splatter that may contain viruses and bacteria from reaching the mouth or nose. Surgical masks may also help reduce exposure of saliva and respiratory secretions from the wearer to others. Surgical masks have a looser fit than N95 masks and thus may not provide the same level of protection from germs and other contaminants.

What does N95 mean?

N95 means that the mask is able to filter out 95% of the contaminants in the air. In order to ensure that the mask meets the requirements of a N95 it is tested against NIOSH Standard 42CFR 84. H&V filtration media is engineered to make sure that the stringent requirements in the standards are met.
