Our dry laid capabilities employ the carded web forming process—staple fibers are cleaned, separated, and oriented via drums coated with wires or teeth. We offer the following web consolidation methods:

  • Calender or Thermal Bonding:  The web is bonded by using a calender to apply heat and pressure. Area and point bonding are the two primary methods used. Area bonding involves two smooth calenders through which the web is passed. Point bonding involves one patterned and one smooth calender, resulting in a loftier and textured web.
  • Chemical or Latex Bonding:  Chemical bonding ties down the fibers used in making a web. Various properties can be imparted to the web when using latex binders to consolidate the web.  For example, you might like your material to be heat sealable, flame retardant, pill-resistant, tear-resistant, or colored.
  • Thru-air Bonding:  By exposing the web surface to hot air while moving through an oven, we can produce a very lofty and flexible material.
  • Needlepunching:  Using barbed needles to mechanically entangle the web, we produce a very strong, yet lofty nonwoven.

H&V produces filtration and industrial products with these processes ranging in weight from 15 to 500 g/m2 and incorporate polyester, rayon, bicomponent, and polyethylene staple fibers.
